The leaf, brewed

Dark-caramel sweetness with a camphor-laden, woody backbone

dry leaf

Compressed cake of dark, wiry brown leaves scattered with golden buds — nutty, faintly marine, and clean.

wet leaf

Leaves open to a deep mahogany colour, releasing a warm, damp-forest aroma with hints of old books and date syrup.

liquor

Copper-brown, completely translucent, with a soft oily sheen on the surface.

aroma

Steamed bamboo leaf, camphor, and a whisper of burnt sugar — gentle but persistent.

taste

Round and silky entry, moving into a mid-palate of damp wood, dark honey, and roasted chestnut. No bitterness or astringency; a subtle mineral lift keeps it lively.

finish

Smooth, coating the throat with a lingering sweetness (huigan) and a breath-cooling sensation that lasts several minutes.

Brewing

A method, not a recipe.

Method
gongfu
Ratio
1g : 15ml
Water temp
100
First infusion
10–15 (after a quick rinse)
Subsequent
8–10 infusions, adding 5–10 seconds each time. For the first three steeps, pour water down the side of the gaiwan to avoid breaking the leaves.
